Farmers unite to promote U.S. Pork

By Andi Anderson

A recent trade mission to Vietnam, organized by U.S. agricultural associations, brought together American pork producers and Vietnamese consumers to boost the visibility and demand for U.S. pork.

The Porkstars USA initiative is a key part of this effort, showcasing the versatility of U.S. pork and high oleic soybean oil in Vietnamese cuisine through cooking competitions and influencer partnerships.

Vietnam, with its growing middle class and evolving food culture, presents a significant opportunity for U.S. pork exports.

Recent challenges in Vietnam’s domestic pork industry, caused by outbreaks of African swine fever, have created a demand for imported pork. American farmers see this as an important market to invest in and build long-term relationships.

During the trade mission, U.S. representatives promoted pork as a healthy, reliable, and nutritious product. Cooking competitions featured three Vietnamese chefs paired with social media influencers, who used U.S. pork in innovative dishes.

This live showcase highlighted the quality of American pork, while influencers engaged their large followings to further promote U.S. products.

Vietnam’s interest in high-quality protein aligns with the goals of American farmers to increase exports. As a major soybean producer, the U.S. also promoted high oleic soybean oil, which was used in all the dishes during the competition.

This not only benefits pork producers but also creates additional demand for soybean growers.

However, challenges remain. Tariffs on U.S. pork continue to pose barriers in the Vietnamese market. U.S. representatives are working hard to address these issues through government support and ongoing relationship building.

Through initiatives like Porkstars USA, U.S. farmers hope to grow their presence in Vietnam, ensuring that American pork remains a trusted and preferred choice for consumers. This strategic investment in international markets is crucial for the future of U.S. agriculture.
