Foliaj Farms brings fresh greens to Muncie

By Andi Anderson

Foliaj Farms, a new indoor farming operation led by first-time grower Bill Reece, has adopted Sollum Technologies’ innovative LED lighting system for its warehouse in Muncie, Indiana. The farm focuses on cultivating leafy greens such as lettuce, kale, and herbs in a fully controlled indoor environment.

Bill chose Sollum’s dynamic lighting technology for its ability to enhance plant growth through tailored lighting solutions. The lighting system is powered by Sollum’s SUN as a Service® (SUNaaS®) cloud platform, which offers multi-zoning capabilities. This feature allows different production zones to have customized light recipes, perfectly suited to the specific needs of each crop. For Bill, who plans to diversify the range of crops grown at Foliaj Farms, this flexibility was a significant advantage.

“We’re excited to see Foliaj Farms adopt our solution,” said Matthew Bonavita, Sollum’s Vice President of Sales. “Bill’s commitment to growing a variety of crops in an efficient and sustainable way aligns perfectly with what our dynamic lighting offers. We’re confident that Sollum’s technology will help Foliaj Farms meet its production goals, both now and in the future.”

A key driver behind Bill’s decision was his dedication to addressing the local community’s limited access to fresh produce. By offering healthier, pesticide-free, and affordable food options, he hopes to reduce reliance on fast food in the area.

“This project isn’t just about farming, it’s about making healthy, pesticide-free produce accessible to people who need it the most,” Bill said. “Sollum’s technology allows me to apply the best lighting to each crop, ensuring optimal growth and making our vision a reality.  We tested and reviewed a number of lighting solutions and Sollum offered a far superior option for us.”

Foliaj Farms is setting an example of how advanced technology can support sustainable agriculture while addressing community needs. For more information on Sollum’s dynamic LED solutions, contact their sales team in the USA or Canada.
