Real Organic Project's next Fellow Farmer session: Ruminant Grazing with Francis Thicke of Radiance Dairy is coming up on April 3 at 7 p.m. Eastern.
Francis and his wife Susan own and operate Radiance Dairy, a 736-acre grass-based organic dairy farm in Southeast Iowa. The Thickes have been farming organically since 1975, became certified in 1992, and moved to a new farm in 1996, transitioning it from a corn and soybean crop farm to their grass based enterprise. The Thickes restored the hilly fields to productive pasture, and planted the tillable land to perennial grasses and legumes.
Francis holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy and worked for the USDA-Extension Service as the National Program Leader for Soil Science. He has served on many boards, including the National Organic Standards Board, and is currently serving on Real Organic Project's Standards Board as farmer representative.
