Growing the Future - Indiana 4-H Seeks Input for Ag Workforce

By Andi Anderson

Indiana 4-H is on a mission to empower the next generation of agricultural leaders! They're reaching out to employers in the food, agriculture, and forestry industries to understand their current workforce needs. This information will be used to develop educational programs that better prepare young people for exciting careers in agriculture.

"Agriculture is at the heart of 4-H," said Casey Mull, who leads Indiana 4-H Youth Development. "We want to hear from industry experts so we can create programs that equip young people with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in a modern agricultural workplace."

Employers with at least two employees are encouraged to take a short online survey by April 15th. The survey covers topics like job recruitment, employee retention, and training needs.

This initiative is part of a larger grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The grant will benefit 4-H programs in eight states, allowing them to develop innovative educational programs and career pathways in agriculture.

The employer survey, the project will involve creating a youth council to explore young people's perspectives on ag careers, and researching existing agriculture education programs for youth in the region.

Indiana 4-H's commitment to building a strong future for agriculture is inspiring. By working together with industry leaders, they can ensure a new generation is ready to lead the way in feeding the world.
