The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is currently accepting applications and nominations for the prestigious 2024 Governor's Awards for Environmental Excellence until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 1.
This opportunity is open to citizens, government agencies, businesses, organizations, and educational institutions. Whether submitting nominations on behalf of others or applying directly, the chance to be recognized for environmental stewardship is open to all.

Projects eligible for consideration must have taken place in Indiana and been implemented during 2022 or 2023. Evaluation criteria will emphasize project innovation, measurable results, and transferability.
For the 2024 edition, IDEM and Governor Eric J. Holcomb's office will present awards in seven categories:
- Energy Efficiency/Renewable Resources
- Environmental Education/Outreach
- Five-Year Continuous Improvement
- Greening the Government
- Land Use/Conservation
- Pollution Prevention
- Recycling/Reuse.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for September. Since its inception in 1994, the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence has grown into one of Indiana's most esteemed environmental recognitions. In 2023, recipients included GM Fort Wayne Assembly, Red-Tail Land Conservancy, VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, Michigan City Sanitary District and Delta Institute, DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc., and Carroll Elementary School – Flora.
