Indiana BOAH: Experimental-Use Vaccine for EHD

A vaccine for epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) is available on an experimental basis in Indiana. Use of the vaccine requires prior approval by BOAH.

To use, a producer must contact the manufacturer, Medgene Labs, directly and provide the name and contact details of the herd veterinarian who will work with BOAH for approval to use. The shipping address, farm address and number of doses must also be provided. This information is then sent to USDA Center for Veterinary Biologics (CVB) for approval to ship the vaccine to the producer.

This more intense process is due to the "experimental" status of the vaccine. Medgene will continue to work toward licensing the vaccine, which will eventually make obtaining doses easier for a producer.
