Indiana Prairie Farmer's Crop Contributor Earns National Recognition

Bryan Overstreet, a prominent figure in Indiana's agricultural community, has achieved recognition on the national stage by receiving the esteemed 2023 National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA) Distinguished Service Award. This prestigious accolade acknowledges excellence in the field of professional Extension for members who have devoted more than a decade to this noble cause.

Overstreet has had a profound impact on the agricultural landscape, serving as a Purdue Extension educator and conservation agronomist for northern Indiana with the Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative. His dedication and expertise have made him a well-known and respected contributor to the Indiana Prairie Farmer, where he frequently lends his insights as a certified crop adviser panelist for columns such as the Corn Corner, Soybean Corner, Corn Pest Beat, and Soybean Pest Beat. These columns benefit from the participation of members of the Indiana Certified Crop Advisers Association, who take turns as panelists over three-month periods.

With an impressive 18-year tenure as an NACAA member, Overstreet previously received the NACAA Achievement Award in 2011, highlighting his consistent commitment to agricultural extension services. He is also an active member of the Indiana Extension Educators Association.

During his tenure as Jasper County Extension educator for ag and natural resources, Overstreet spearheaded a comprehensive array of field crop production programs, including field days, private pesticide applicator recertification programs, and unmanned aerial vehicle certification training. Beyond these accomplishments, he has actively contributed to the Purdue Extension Farm Stress team, providing valuable assistance to farm families in succession planning through his involvement in Annie's Project.

Overstreet's dedication extends beyond the academic realm; he serves as the vice president of the North American Manure Expo board, where he played a pivotal role in bringing the expo to north-central Indiana. Additionally, during his time as an Extension educator in Jasper County, he held the position of vice chair of the Jasper County Plan Commission.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Bryan Overstreet was honored as the Indiana Certified Crop Advisor of the Year in 2018, a distinction that earned him a coveted spot on the cover of the Indiana Prairie Farmer. His tireless efforts and unwavering commitment continue to leave an indelible mark on the agricultural landscape, making him a well-deserving recipient of the 2023 NACAA Distinguished Service Award.
