Indiana state fair highlights pork riblets as signature dish

By Andi Anderson

The Indiana State Fair, known for its vibrant celebration of agriculture and culinary delights, is set to feature Pork Riblets as Indiana Pork’s "Taste of the Fair" food for 2024.

These riblets, a smaller yet hearty version of traditional pork ribs, will be available from August 2 to August 18, excluding Mondays, at a price of $11. They will be offered at three dedicated Indiana Pork tents throughout the fairgrounds.

Jeanette Merritt, Director of Communications at Indiana Pork, expressed excitement about this year's signature dish. “Indiana Pork is happy to feature our 'Taste of the Fair' option that is not only delicious but highlights the nutritional value of pork,” she said.

The riblets come with a choice of three unique sauces: Hot Honey, Nelson’s Red Sauce, and Citrus Explosion, adding a delightful twist to each bite.

The choice of baby back ribs ensures that fairgoers receive a leaner, more tender meal option compared to traditional spare rib cuts. This makes the Pork Riblets an excellent choice for those seeking healthier food alternatives while enjoying the festive atmosphere of the fair.

Over the years, Indiana Pork has introduced various innovative dishes under the "Taste of the Fair" program, such as the Garbage Burger, Pork Boat, and Loaded Pit-Tatoes.

Due to their popularity, these items have earned a permanent spot on the fair menu. The program aims to offer unique culinary experiences, encouraging visitors to try new and different food options.

“‘Taste of the Fair’ features something that is a bit different and encourages fair guests to try something new,” Merritt added. The riblets are served in smaller portions, ideal for sharing as an appetizer or enjoying as a full entrée.

Visitors can find the Indiana Pork tents in prominent locations around the fairgrounds: in front of the West Pavilion, at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion, and near Pioneer Village.

These tents serve as hubs for tasting the signature dish and highlight Indiana Pork's commitment to promoting local agriculture and nutritious eating at one of the state's largest gatherings.
