Indianapolis to Host 2024 World Food Championships

By Andi Anderson

Indianapolis is set to become the epicenter of culinary excellence as it hosts the 2024 World Food Championships at the Indiana State Fairgrounds from November 8 to 12. The Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion will serve as the hub for this global culinary showdown.

The World Food Championships bring together over 1,500 competitors, including home cooks, professional chefs, and barbecue teams from around the world. The event features a fierce competition across 12 categories, encompassing bacon, barbecue, burger, chef, dessert, live fire, rice, noodle, sandwich, seafood, soup, and vegetarian.

The initiative to bring the World Food Championships to Indianapolis was driven by Culinary Crossroads, a statewide branding initiative highlighting Indiana's vibrant culinary community. Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch expressed excitement, stating that Indianapolis is the perfect destination for the championships. The Indiana State Fairgrounds' new Farm Bureau Pavilion and Ivy Tech Community College's Culinary Center will showcase why Indianapolis is deemed the Culinary Crossroads of America.

Fans attending the World Food Championships will have the opportunity to witness intense competitions, savor diverse food offerings prepared by participants, enjoy cooking demonstrations, and explore products from numerous vendors.

Larry Dickerson, director of Culinary Crossroads, highlighted the collaborative effort that brought this culinary extravaganza to Indianapolis, aiming to establish the city as the Food Sports Capital of America.

Competitors must earn a spot in the championships by winning a Golden Ticket at a qualifying event, adding an extra layer of prestige to this gastronomic spectacle.

World Food Championships, founded in 2012, crowns champions in various food categories, with Indianapolis now positioned as the ideal host city for this culinary celebration. The event promises to solidify its status as a major player in the global food sports arena.
