The Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA) is set to make a mark at the 2024 World Food Championships (WFC) by providing high oleic soybean oil as the event’s “Official Cooking Oil.” Held from November 8 to 12 at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis, this renowned competition is known for showcasing culinary talent across various categories.
This year marks ISA’s first collaboration with the WFC, giving competitors a chance to work with high oleic soybean oil in the Kitchen Arena.
High oleic soybean oil, produced exclusively in the U.S., offers unique benefits for food service applications, particularly in high-heat cooking. Known for its excellent heat stability, this oil lasts longer under high temperatures and extended use compared to standard vegetable oils.
Additionally, its neutral flavor profile allows the natural taste of ingredients to shine, making it a versatile choice for diverse cuisines.
As a recognized Qualified State Soybean Board by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Indiana Soybean Alliance works to strengthen the state’s soybean market and support local farmers.
Through soybean checkoff funds, ISA focuses on market development, education, and promotion, enhancing the presence of Indiana-grown soybeans. They collaborate with the United Soybean Board, which promotes soy and soy-based products nationally.
Mike McCloud, Founder of the World Food Championships, expressed excitement about partnering with ISA to feature soy on a global culinary stage. He noted that soy is often underutilized in Western cooking, and this partnership will help highlight its versatility as a key ingredient in food competitions.
The World Food Championships, held annually, offer live cooking competitions, demonstrations, and interactive experiences for food enthusiasts and professionals alike. Attendees can enjoy the excitement at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion, which serves as the event's central hub.
