Pollinator Habitat Boosted by New Indiana Plate

Pollinator Habitat Boosted by New Indiana Plate

By Andi Anderson

Indiana is introducing a new statewide Protect Pollinators specialty license plate that will be available through the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles beginning January 1, 2026. This new plate has been developed to raise awareness about the importance of pollinators and to support conservation work that benefits communities across the state.

Pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and many other species, play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems and supporting agriculture. They help crops grow, strengthen natural habitats, and contribute to food production. However, these species face challenges such as habitat loss, reduced access to native plants, and environmental pressures. The new specialty license plate aims to help address these concerns through funding and education.

More than 1,200 Indiana residents supported the launch of the Protect Pollinators plate, reflecting strong local interest in conservation and community-based initiatives. Proceeds from the plate will support a wide range of projects, including native planting efforts, pollinator-friendly habitat restoration, educational programs for schools and communities, and local conservation events. These programs will help people learn about the role pollinators play and how small actions can contribute to long-term environmental health.

The funds will also help organizations develop resources, expand outreach, and support community groups working to increase pollinator-friendly spaces. These efforts create opportunities for students, families, and local volunteers to participate in conservation activities throughout Indiana.

The full press release includes images, ordering instructions, and additional information for residents who wish to learn more or begin placing preorders. The release also invites media outlets and community organizations to help share the message and encourage participation. Conservation Director Phoebe Redfield is available for interviews, quotes, or further details to support this statewide effort.

“Supporting pollinators supports our future,” the release notes, highlighting the broader environmental benefits of this initiative.

Indiana’s Protect Pollinators specialty license plate serves as an accessible way for residents to contribute to conservation. By choosing this plate, individuals can show their support for protecting natural ecosystems while helping fund meaningful programs that benefit pollinators and the communities that rely on them.
