Land management grants now open in Indiana

Land management grants now open in Indiana

By Andi Anderson

Landowners in Southern Indiana have a unique opportunity to apply for funding through the Southern Indiana Sentinel Landscape Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP).

This program, led by various public and private partners, focuses on restoring and sustaining ecosystems, particularly the declining oak-hickory forests, while supporting military missions and improving agricultural practices. The deadline for applications is December 6.

The Southern Indiana Sentinel Landscape Partnership, anchored by four military installations, includes a vast patchwork of natural lands.

Its goals include sustainable farming and forestry, ecosystem restoration, and enhancing climate resiliency.

Eligible landowners can receive support for various forestry and cropland practices. Forestry practices focus on restoring oak-hickory ecosystems, improving habitat for endangered species such as the Indiana bat and northern long-eared bat.

Cropland practices aim to improve soil health, water quality, and carbon sequestration through cover crops, no-till farming, and other sustainable techniques.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but to be considered for this funding round, submissions must be received by December 6. Interested landowners can visit their local USDA Service Center or use the online service locator to learn more about eligibility and the application process.
