Purdue Extension is inviting farmland and forest landowners to participate in the Land of Opportunity: A Conference For Farmland Owners. The educational event is designed to provide practical knowledge, expert advice, and valuable networking opportunities for individuals who own, manage, or have an interest in rural land.
The conference will be held at two regional locations in Indiana. The first event will take place on October 5, 2026, at the Honeywell Center in Wabash, Indiana. The second conference will be held on October 6, 2026, at the Terre Haute Convention Center in Terre Haute, Indiana. Both events will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:20 p.m., with registration check-in beginning at 8:15 a.m.
The program has been developed to address the needs of modern farmland owners. Participants will gain access to keynote presentations and a variety of educational breakout sessions focused on important landownership topics. These sessions are designed to help attendees make informed decisions about managing and protecting their land resources.
One of the unique features of the conference is the opportunity for attendees to customize their experience. During registration, participants can select breakout sessions that best match their interests and goals. This flexible format allows landowners to focus on topics most relevant to their individual situations.
The breakout sessions will be led by Purdue Extension Educators and Specialists, along with experienced industry professionals. Attendees will receive practical information and have opportunities to ask questions and participate in discussions. The interactive format encourages learning and allows participants to gain direct insights from experts in the field.
Topics covered during the conference will include farmland leasing arrangements, conservation practices, estate planning, taxes, and other issues that affect rural property owners. These subjects are increasingly important as landowners work to improve profitability, preserve natural resources, and plan for future generations.
In addition to educational sessions, the conference will provide valuable networking opportunities. Attendees will be able to connect with fellow landowners, agricultural professionals, and experts who share an interest in farmland and forest management. These connections can help participants gain new ideas and learn from the experiences of others.
Registration for the conference costs $40, which includes a catered lunch and program materials. Organizers encourage interested participants to register early and take advantage of the learning opportunities available through the event. The registration deadline was September 18.
The Land of Opportunity conference offers a valuable platform for farmland owners to expand their knowledge, stay informed about key land management issues, and build connections with experts and fellow landowners. Through education and collaboration, the event aims to support responsible land stewardship and long-term success for Indiana’s rural landowners.
