Indiana farmers and food entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to strengthen their businesses through the upcoming MarketReady program. The educational event is designed to help farms and value-added food businesses understand the requirements and opportunities associated with entering or expanding into wholesale markets.
The program will take place on February 10, 2027, in Owen County, Indiana. The session will be held at Harvest Moon Winery in Gosport from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST. The training provides participants with practical information that can help them prepare for successful wholesale marketing and business growth.
MarketReady is designed for producers and food businesses interested in selling products through larger marketing channels. These may include grocery stores, distributors, institutions, restaurants, and other wholesale buyers. Understanding buyer expectations, business requirements, and market standards is important for businesses seeking to expand their customer base and increase sales opportunities.
The program registration fee is $50 per person and includes a training manual. Enrollment is limited, with space available for only the first 30 participants. Early registration is encouraged to secure a place in the training.
Financial assistance may be available for eligible participants. Indiana farms and value-added food businesses that produce or sell food products and demonstrate a strong interest in entering or expanding wholesale markets may qualify for a waived registration fee. Applicants must also be in good standing with the State of Indiana. Individuals interested in potential fee assistance should contact Sarah Hanson for eligibility information before completing registration.
The MarketReady program receives support through partnerships with the Indiana State Department of Agriculture. These partnerships help provide educational opportunities that encourage agricultural business development and market expansion across the state.
In addition to educational content, organizers are committed to ensuring accessibility for all participants. Individuals requiring accommodations, interpreter or translator services, or special dietary arrangements are encouraged to contact Sarah Hanson before the event. Advance notice helps ensure appropriate arrangements can be made for attendees.
Wholesale marketing can offer significant growth opportunities, but it also requires careful planning and preparation. Programs such as MarketReady help participants understand industry expectations, improve business practices, and develop strategies for serving larger customers successfully.
As consumer demand for locally produced food continues to grow, educational programs focused on market development can play a valuable role in helping agricultural businesses remain competitive. Through training, networking, and business preparation, participants can gain the knowledge needed to confidently pursue new wholesale opportunities and strengthen the future of their operations.
