Prepare Vegetables and Herbs for Fair Winning Displays

Prepare Vegetables and Herbs for Fair Winning Displays

By Andi Anderson

A practical learning session titled Getting Vegetables and Herbs Ready for Show aims to help participants improve their exhibit skills for agricultural fairs.

This hands-on training focuses on teaching simple and effective methods to select, prepare, and display fresh produce such as vegetables and herbs.

The session is designed for beginners as well as individuals who want to improve their showcasing abilities. Special encouragement is given to 4-H members and Harris Hall exhibitors, as these groups often participate actively in fair competitions.

Young participants under the age of 18 are required to attend with a parent or guardian to ensure safety and proper guidance.

The training will be held at the Putnam County Fairgrounds, Community Building East Side, located at 191 N. US Highway 231, Greencastle, Indiana.

Participants will learn how to choose the best quality produce, clean and prepare it correctly, and present it attractively on display tables. These steps are important because proper presentation can significantly increase the chances of winning prizes such as blue ribbons.

Jenna Nees, Program Coordinator at Purdue University Extension, is the contact person for this session. Participants who need accommodations, interpretation, or translation services must contact her before July 02, 2026. This ensures that everyone has an equal opportunity to take part in the program.

The event also reflects Purdue University's commitment to inclusivity, as it strictly prohibits discrimination based on factors such as race, gender, age, or disability.
