Purdue Extension will once again bring a wide range of educational activities and interactive exhibits to the Indiana State Fair, offering visitors an opportunity to learn about agriculture, science, health, and career development in an engaging way.
The fair, themed “Always a Hit,” will feature programs designed for people of all ages. Visitors can explore hands-on displays, meet university experts, and gain a better understanding of the important role agriculture and education play in everyday life.
Angie Abbott, Director of Purdue Extension and Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture, highlighted the organization's enthusiasm for the event, saying, “Purdue Extension is excited to continue its longtime partnership with the Indiana State Fair. It’s also a wonderful chance to celebrate the accomplishments of 4-H youth from across the state and the work our educators do year-round.”
She also added, “Attendees will have the chance to learn about agriculture, nature and healthy lifestyles through our interactive demonstrations and activities. We are particularly looking forward to sharing the educational exhibits at the Purdue Extension Building, where attendees can connect with various Purdue University and Extension experts and engage with rotating interactive displays.”
The Purdue Extension Building will host several educational attractions. Young children can participate in block play activities that help develop school-readiness skills. Students and families can also explore college and career readiness resources and learn about opportunities available after high school. Purdue specialists will be available to discuss topics such as forestry, animal sciences, early childhood development, natural resources, and farm succession planning.
Visitors interested in gardening can learn about plants suitable for local growing conditions and receive tips on proper plant care. The building will also feature free popcorn samples with unique seasonings developed by Purdue food science students. These activities highlight Indiana’s connection to agriculture, food innovation, and research.
Animal exhibits will be another major attraction at the fair. Guests can see a variety of livestock, including pigs, horses, sheep, goats, llamas, cows, poultry, and rabbits. Purdue Department of Animal Sciences ambassadors will provide information about animal care and answer visitors’ questions. Purdue veterinary medicine students will also help care for animals participating in the event.
Fairgoers can also visit Pioneer Village, which offers a glimpse into life during the 1800s. The attraction includes antique tractors, farm toy displays, contests, live entertainment, and historical demonstrations that showcase Indiana’s agricultural heritage.
Through these exhibits and activities, Purdue Extension aims to make learning fun while helping visitors better understand agriculture, science, healthy living, and career opportunities. The event provides an excellent opportunity for families to explore educational experiences while celebrating Indiana’s strong agricultural traditions.
