Purdue University students are finding valuable learning opportunities at Wea Creek Apple Orchard, a local farm just a short distance from campus.
This seventh-generation farm, owned by Purdue alumnus Perry Kirkham, offers students a chance to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world situations.
Agriculture students at Purdue are working at Wea Creek, gaining hands-on experience in various aspects of apple production, from harvesting to marketing.
They are also conducting research projects, analyzing data, and applying economic principles to real-world scenarios.
One such student, Clara Shoopman, is a junior studying agricultural economics.
She is working at the farm's store, observing customer behavior and analyzing supply and demand. She is also collaborating with a professor on a research project about family agribusiness succession.
Wea Creek Apple Orchard serves as a valuable resource for Purdue students, providing them with practical experience and a deeper understanding of the agricultural industry.
It also highlights the importance of local farming and the connection between academia and agriculture.
