By Andi Anderson

Registration is now open for the much-anticipated 2024 Indiana Small Farm Conference, bringing together the state's farming community for two days of learning, networking, and growth. Hosted at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville on Feb. 29 and March 1, this 12th annual event promises to be a valuable experience for both novice and experienced small-scale farmers.

Keynote speaker Michael Kilpatrick, founder of Growing Farmers and host of the acclaimed "Thriving Farmer Podcast," will share insights on thriving in challenging times and enhancing your farm's productivity. The event includes a trade show, offering attendees the chance to explore innovative products and services.

Since its inception in 2013, the conference has been a hub for comprehensive, instructive, and enjoyable programming focused on diversified farming and local food systems. With eight diverse tracks, participants can tailor their experience by selecting sessions that align with their interests. The tracks cover a wide range, including urban agriculture, vegetable production, business strategies, livestock management, resilient agriculture, niche opportunities, equity and food security, and a unique addition – flowers.

Exciting new sessions include "fiber farming," featuring presentations on sheep, alpaca, and rabbit farming for fiber production. Additionally, there will be a fruit grafting demonstration during the Thursday evening social hour, providing a hands-on experience for attendees.

Amy Thompson, Purdue Extension’s beginning farmers coordinator and conference organizer, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming event, emphasizing the inclusion of farmer panels and ample networking opportunities. Don't miss your chance to be part of this enriching experience. Register now for the 2024 Indiana Small Farm Conference and cultivate new knowledge and connections for your farming journey.
