The Small Business Administration (SBA) is turning its attention to Indiana, aiming to catalyze growth and opportunity for businesses across the state. Led by Dilawar Syed, the SBA’s Deputy Administrator, the agency is implementing initiatives focused on financing, tech innovation, and facilitating access to government contracts.
With a mission to support the more than 33 million small businesses nationwide, the SBA is increasingly prioritizing the needs of emerging tech companies. Syed emphasizes the role of tech entrepreneurs as problem solvers and optimists, highlighting the agency's efforts to collaborate with lenders to provide seed funding to tech startups.
Through small business investment research grants and seed funding, local, regional, and community banks are ramping up their involvement with the SBA, resulting in increased funding opportunities for small business owners. Notably, Indiana has seen $600 million in growth and working capital lent to small businesses, reflecting the effectiveness of these initiatives.
The SBA plays a crucial role in facilitating government contracts, ensuring that minority and women-owned businesses have equal opportunities to bid on large federal projects like road construction. Syed underscores the SBA's commitment to creating opportunities for all businesses, regardless of size or ownership.
The SBA operates ten small business career centers across Indiana, providing entrepreneurs with valuable resources such as business plan reviews, guidance on SBA loan applications, mentoring opportunities, and more.
