St Joseph County Farmers Met for PARP Training

By Andi Anderson

A farmers meeting focused on Professional Agricultural Renewal Program requirements was held in St Joseph County within Indiana’s Northwest District.

The event brought together local producers for education, discussion, and updates on key agronomic and regulatory topics relevant to the upcoming growing season.

The meeting took place on March 19, 2026, and was hosted at the Ester Singer Building at the St Joseph County Fairgrounds in South Bend, Indiana.

Farmers attended the morning session to gain information that supported both farm productivity and compliance with continuing education needs. The program was organized through Purdue Extension and was part of ongoing efforts to deliver research based education to agricultural communities.

Several important topics were covered during the meeting. One session focused on regenerating soil function using cover crops. Speakers explained how cover crops supported soil structure, improved water movement, and contributed to long term soil health.

Practical examples were shared to help farmers understand how these practices could fit into existing crop systems.

Another segment reviewed findings from Purdue on the Farm 2025 research trials. This portion highlighted applied research conducted under real farm conditions and explained how results could be used to guide management decisions.

The discussion helped farmers better understand how research translated into everyday field practices.

The meeting also included a 2026 Environmental Stewardship and regulatory update. This session addressed upcoming changes and requirements that could affect crop production and farm operations. Clear explanations were provided to help producers prepare ahead of the next season.

The event was coordinated by Emily Evers, an Agriculture and Natural Resources Educator. Farmers registered by phone or email and were encouraged to reach out with questions before or after the meeting. Contact information was shared to support ongoing communication and follow up.

Overall, the St Joseph County PARP meeting served as an important educational opportunity. It helped farmers strengthen soil management skills, stay informed about research and regulations, and connect with Extension resources that supported successful and responsible farming.
