Huntington University has expanded its agriculture faculty with the appointment of Dr. Jessi Haeft as Associate Professor in the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies. With extensive experience in agricultural education, research, and student mentorship, she is expected to play an important role in preparing students for successful careers in the agriculture industry.
Before joining Huntington University, Dr. Haeft spent 12 years at Ball State University. During her tenure, she taught a variety of agriculture-related subjects, including soil science, sustainable agriculture, precision agriculture, and natural resource management. Her academic background and practical experience have made her a respected educator in the agricultural field.
Dr. Haeft has built a strong reputation for her work in soil health, agroecology, and precision agriculture. Throughout her career, she has focused on helping students gain practical knowledge and real-world experience. Her teaching approach emphasizes experiential learning, allowing students to apply classroom concepts through research projects, conservation programs, student farm activities, and partnerships with agricultural professionals.
Welcoming the appointment, Dr. Luke Fetters, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, said, “Dr. Haeft bring years of teaching experience and high-level scholarship across a broad range of topics in agriculture. She is well-respected in the region, having partnered with local FFA chapters as well as agriculture industry leaders at the local, regional and state levels.”
University leaders believe her experience and commitment to student development will further strengthen the institution's agriculture program. Highlighting her contributions, Dr. Jessica Graves, Director of the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies, said, “I'm elated to have Dr. Haeft on the HU ag team. She brings with her a diverse portfolio of coast-to-coast agricultural production experiences. Additionally, her tenure of teaching and equipping students through classroom instruction and experiential learning activities, coupled with her passion to mentor students through a Christ-centric lens, will enhance the unique learning environment within the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies. She is a living example of the faith, family and farming foundation that we stand upon, and the future is bright for HU ag!”
Dr. Haeft earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and a Master of Science degree in Agriculture from California Polytechnic State University. She later completed a PhD in Agriculture with a concentration in Soil Science at the University of Kentucky.
As she begins her new role, Dr. Haeft aims to support students through academic excellence, hands-on learning opportunities, and mentorship. Her appointment reflects Huntington University's continued commitment to developing future agricultural leaders equipped with both technical knowledge and practical experience.
