Indiana AgrAbility, in partnership with Easterseals Crossroads, is hosting a full-day technology expo on April 13 to provide hands-on training in assistive technology. The USDA-sponsored event aims to provide experiential learning opportunities for agricultural professionals on assistive technology available for farmers with disabilities.
The expo will be held at Purdue University's Beck Agricultural Center, where participants will be able to climb into the cabs of various farm machines and experience the physical challenges involved in operating them.
Breakout sessions will cover topics such as worksite assessments, The Toolbox Assistive Technology Database, the new AgrAbility AT (Assistive Technology) Loan Library, and working with underserved populations like migrant and seasonal farmworkers and veterans. Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour Purdue agricultural facilities, such as dairy, grain handling, and sheep facilities.
While all agricultural professionals are invited to attend, the event is particularly recommended for vocational rehabilitation counselors, occupational therapists, physical therapists, Extension professionals, and AgrAbility staff members in other states.
The Indiana AgrAbility Expo offers a valuable opportunity for agricultural professionals to gain hands-on experience with assistive technology and better understand the challenges faced by farmers with disabilities.
