The Indiana Beef Cattle Association (IBCA) celebrated its annual convention with awards, speakers, and the election of new officers. The event, held at the Sheraton Hotel, recognized outstanding contributions to the beef industry and showcased the association's commitment to growth and innovation.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Randy Cates of Cates Farms in Modoc received the prestigious Robert C. Peterson Lifetime Achievement Award. Cates Farms boasts over 20 National Champion or Reserve Champion females and 15 National Champion or Reserve Champion bulls, a testament to their dedication and hard work.

Outstanding Cattleman Award: Stan Armstrong, a fifth-generation cattle farmer and advocate for efficient, healthy Angus and Angus Simmental cattle, was honored with the Outstanding Cattleman Award. His focus on producing high-performing replacement heifers and feedlot yearlings has earned him well-deserved recognition.

Outstanding Young Cattleman Award: Chad Burcham, owner and manager of Blue River BEEF, impressed the IBCA with his self-motivation, continuous improvement efforts, and active participation in learning new practices. His impressive list of farm improvements in just three years solidified his win.

Friend of the Beef Industry Award: Mark Valentine and Valentine Feed and Supply received the Friend of the Beef Industry Award for their unwavering support of IBCA activities. Their contributions, including providing a cattle chute and scales for Hoosier Beef Congress, have been invaluable to the association.

New Leadership: The IBCA membership elected new officers for the 2024-2025 term:

  • President: Kelley Sheiss of Larwill
  • President-Elect: Keegan Poe of Franklin
  • Vice President: Dr. David Dixon of Rensselaer
  • Treasurer: Andrew Stewart of Greensburg
  • Immediate Past President: Jeff Sherfield of Spencer

The IBCA Board of Directors, comprising 10 Area Directors and representatives from various sectors, continues its crucial role in managing the Beef Checkoff and driving the association's success.

This year's convention highlighted the IBCA's commitment to recognizing excellence, fostering innovation, and ensuring a bright future for the Indiana beef industry.
