Indiana Corn Marketing Council (ICMC) is calling upon Hoosier farmers to step forward and lead by running for positions on its Board of Directors. With five seats up for election this year, farmers have the opportunity to play a crucial role in directing corn checkoff investments and advancing agricultural initiatives across the state.
The elections, hosted by ICMC, will fill positions in Districts 2, 5, and 8, as well as two statewide at-large seats. President Tim Gauck, a farmer from Greensburg, Ind., emphasized the importance of fresh perspectives and innovative ideas in guiding the strategic allocation of corn checkoff dollars.
Gauck highlighted the significant impact of Indiana's corn checkoff program, which actively promotes ethanol production, explores new markets, and prioritizes farm safety through initiatives like the Grain Bin Safety program. By participating in the elections, farmers can contribute to the continued success and growth of Indiana's corn industry.
To run for an ICMC director seat, candidates must meet certain criteria, including being at least 18 years old, a registered Indiana voter, and a resident in the appropriate district. All eligible farmers who submit valid petitions by June 1 will be listed as candidates on the election ballot. Voting will take place at Purdue Cooperative Extension Service offices in August.
Three current directors will complete their third, three-year term this year, making way for new leaders to join the board. Exiting directors include Kelly Whiteman Snipes in District 2, Mike Beard in District 5, and At-Large Director Sarah Delbecq.
Farmers interested in running for a director seat can download necessary forms from the ICMC website or obtain them from Purdue County Extension offices. Completed forms must be submitted by the specified deadline for consideration.
Newly elected directors will commence their three-year term on October 1, 2024. Directors have the opportunity to serve three consecutive full terms or a total of nine consecutive years, contributing to the continued progress and prosperity of Indiana's corn industry.
Don't miss this chance to make a difference in Indiana's agricultural landscape. Join Indiana Corn Marketing Council in shaping the future of corn checkoff investments and advancing the interests of corn growers across the state.
