INDIANA WEATHER

Indiana Harvest Season Wraps Up

Winter preparations commenced as many farmers throughout the State wrapped up harvest, according to Nathanial Warenski, state statistician, USDA NASS, Indiana Field Office. Soil moisture levels increased slightly from the previous week, with 53 percent of topsoil moisture reported as adequate or surplus.

The average temperature for the week was 40.1 degrees Fahrenheit, 0.80 degrees above normal for the State. The amount of rainfall varied from none to 1.26 inches over the week. The statewide average precipitation was 0.56 inches, 0.45 inches below normal. There were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Winter wheat emergence approached completion as it continued ahead of its five-year average pace with 62 percent of the crop rated in good to excellent condition.

Other activities for the week included winter preparations and lime and fertilizer applications.

This issue concludes the weekly Indiana reports for the 2022 season. Special thanks to the dedicated farmers, Extension Educators, FSA County Directors, NRCS Conservation Specialists, and others who supplied the information necessary to complete these reports each week. Your time and effort made this publication possible and ensured an up-to-date and accurate representation of Indiana agriculture, said Warenski.

Reports will be issued monthly during the winter season. Weekly reports will resume in April 2023.
