If you missed the recent UC Davis seminar by renowned apiculturist Juliana Rangel Posada, not to worry—the seminar was recorded and is available online.
Posada, an associate professor at Texas A&M University and a leader in honey bee research, presented on the topic of "Food Lipid Contest Shapes Protein-Lipid Regulation in Honey Bee Nurses." This insightful seminar is accessible via Aggie Videos on the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology website.
Posada's presentation highlighted the importance of nutrition for honey bees, particularly focusing on how bees balance their intake of protein and lipids from pollen.
She explained how bees prioritize macronutrient intake, favoring a protein-lipid ratio of 3:2. Her research found that bees avoid highly lipid-rich diets, suggesting that lipid regulation is particularly important for their overall health.
This seminar is part of the ongoing fall series at UC Davis, where experts discuss various topics related to entomology and nematology.
The fall series is coordinated by nematologist Amanda Hodson and features seminars every Monday through Dec. 2. The recorded seminars can be found on the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology website at this link.
This educational series offers valuable insights into ongoing research in entomology, including honey bee health, pest management, and soil ecology.
