Mahindra Launches MaxSeeder for Precision Zero-Till Farming

Mahindra Launches MaxSeeder for Precision Zero-Till Farming

By Jamie Martin

Mahindra & Mahindra has started commercial manufacturing and deliveries of the MaxSeeder, a precision zero-till seeding machine designed for multiple crops.

Manufactured under license from Canada-based Clean Seed Technologies, the equipment brings advanced planting technology to farmers seeking to improve productivity, reduce input costs, and adopt more sustainable farming practices.

The MaxSeeder can plant rice, wheat, soybeans, corn, and cotton by placing seeds directly into fields containing crop residue. This zero-till approach reduces the need for conventional soil preparation and helps farmers avoid burning leftover paddy straw.

Its precision technology also aims to minimize seed and fertilizer losses, conserve water, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

“Mahindra is proud to partner with Clean Seed to deliver sustainable, mechanisation solutions to farmers world over. The patented and innovative ‘zero-till’, multi-crop seeding machine – the MaxSeeder, combined with Mahindra’s world-class manufacturing, ensures benefits for both farmers and the environment," Veejay Nakra, President, Farm Equipment Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said.

"The collaboration also underscores Clean Seed’s confidence in Mahindra’s capabilities and our shared commitment to advancing access to modern farm machinery globally, and in India, while showcasing Indian manufacturing excellence on the world stage,” Nakra added.

“Seeing our SMART Seeder MINI-MAX™ enter production at Mahindra is a proud milestone and a testament to years of innovation, collaboration and belief in our vision of delivering sustainable seeding and planting solutions for farmers in India and around the world," said Graeme Lempriere, Chairman & CEO of Clean Seed Capital Group.

"I am deeply impressed by Mahindra’s scale and manufacturing capabilities and inspired by the commitment and passion the Mahindra team has brought to this project,” Lempriere added.

Designed to work with tractors rated at 35 horsepower or higher, the tractor-trailed MaxSeeder provides farmers with an alternative to equipment requiring more powerful tractors.

Its adjustable row spacing, multiple metering options, and flexible input delivery systems allow it to accommodate different crops and agricultural practices.

The machine incorporates five independent planting row units that can be configured for different crop patterns. This flexibility supports accurate seed placement, improves equipment utilization, and can reduce the number of passes required across a field.

An electronic control unit regulates the application of seeds, diammonium phosphate (DAP), and urea based on field requirements. Farmers can operate the system through a mobile phone app.

The machine’s multifunctional tine places urea approximately 1.5 inches beneath the seed line, helping position nutrients near developing roots while reducing unnecessary fertilizer application.

Higher operating speeds and fewer field preparation requirements can also reduce fuel consumption, labor demands, and planting time. These efficiencies are particularly valuable when farmers must complete sowing within narrow seasonal windows.

Through the partnership, Mahindra and Clean Seed are combining manufacturing scale with precision seeding technology to make adaptable, efficient, and environmentally conscious farm machinery available to farmers in India and other markets.
