Purdue Extension is organizing a series of educational field tours focused on cut flower production to help growers, students, and flower enthusiasts gain valuable knowledge about the industry.
These events provide an opportunity to learn practical production techniques, explore successful flower-growing operations, and connect with others interested in cut flower farming.
One of the featured events will take place on August 25, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. EDT at Honey Bird Flower Farm in Indianapolis, Indiana. Participants will gather at the parking area located at 6225 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, before taking a short walk to the farm.
During the tour, attendees will have the chance to observe flower-growing practices firsthand and learn about methods used to produce high-quality cut flowers.
The field tour is designed to support both new and experienced growers. Visitors will be able to view demonstration plantings and gain insights into various aspects of flower production.
The event also encourages knowledge-sharing among participants, helping growers learn from one another’s experiences and challenges.
In addition to educational presentations, the program offers valuable networking opportunities. Farmers, gardeners, students, and hobbyists can interact with Purdue Extension specialists and fellow participants to discuss production techniques, management practices, and emerging trends within the cut flower industry.
To make the event more enjoyable, refreshments will be provided following the farm tour. This informal gathering will give attendees additional time to exchange ideas and build connections within the flower-growing community.
The August program is part of a broader series of Purdue Extension educational activities dedicated to specialty crop production. Additional cut flower learning opportunities are also being offered through major Purdue agricultural events, including the Purdue Fruit and Vegetable Field Day and the Purdue Small Farm Education Field Day. These programs aim to provide practical information and resources that support successful farming operations.
The field tour series is supported by the Purdue University AgSEED project, "Strengthen Purdue Extension’s Ability to Serve Indiana Cut Flower Farmers." Through this initiative, Purdue Extension continues to expand educational resources and outreach efforts for the growing cut flower industry in Indiana.
By bringing together researchers, educators, growers, and flower enthusiasts, these field tours promote learning, innovation, and collaboration. The events highlight the importance of specialty crop agriculture while helping participants improve their knowledge and skills in cut flower production.
