Farmers, gardeners, and agricultural enthusiasts will have an opportunity to strengthen their practical farming skills at an upcoming Small Farm Equipment Demo hosted by Purdue Extension. The educational event is designed to provide participants with direct experience using equipment commonly found on small farms and specialty crop operations.
The program will be led by Purdue Extension Northwest Region Agriculture and Natural Resources Educators along with Purdue Extension Horticulture and Landscape Architecture specialists. The event aims to help attendees better understand how different tools and equipment can improve efficiency and productivity in small-scale farming and gardening activities.
Participants will take part in a hands-on learning experience that focuses on several essential farm tasks. Through guided demonstrations and interactive stations, attendees will gain knowledge about proper equipment use and field management techniques. Learning stations will cover important topics such as weeding, planting and seeding, and bed preparation.
One of the key highlights of the event is that everyone will have the opportunity to use the tools and equipment firsthand. This practical approach allows participants to build confidence while learning directly from agricultural professionals. Hands-on demonstrations often provide a deeper understanding of farming practices than classroom instruction alone.
The event welcomes individuals interested in agriculture, whether they are beginning farmers, experienced growers, gardeners, or community members seeking to expand their agricultural knowledge. By rotating through different stations, participants can observe equipment in action and learn best practices for various field operations.
The Small Farm Equipment Demo will take place on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time. The event will be held at the Pinney Purdue Agricultural Center, located at 11402 South County Line Road, Wanatah, Indiana, 46390.
Registration is offered free of charge, making the program accessible to a wide audience interested in agricultural education. Organizers encourage interested participants to register before the October 30 deadline to secure their place. Attendees are also asked to bring their own lunch for the afternoon program.
Events such as this provide valuable opportunities for learning, networking, and skill development. By offering practical training with real equipment, Purdue Extension continues to support farmers and agricultural communities through education and hands-on experiences that promote successful and efficient farming practices.
