IDEM Welcomes NSK Precision America to Stewardship Program
Indiana Ag Connection - 12/06/2018

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) welcomed NSK Precision America to the Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP). NSK Precision America joins 56 other ESP businesses, each of which is committed to implementing or maintaining measurable environmental improvements such as reducing water or energy use, decreasing solid or hazardous waste or reducing air emissions.

NSK Precision America, located in Franklin, manufactures motion control pieces - primarily ball bearing screws and linear guides. They cut steel, machine, grind, and assemble the pieces.

To be accepted in ESP, NSK Precision America has maintained a standard of environmental compliance, developed and implemented an environmental management system (ISO 14001 certified), and committed to a variety of environmental improvement projects. Their first year project is to reduce CO2 by 1 percent annually (estimated to be 6,024 tons). This will be accomplished by upgrading to new energy efficient machines. Future projects include becoming a zero landfill facility through recycling efforts and reducing energy consumption by switching to LED fixtures (estimate annual savings of 14,500 kwh).

To maintain ESP membership, NSK Precision America must report on their environmental initiatives every year and reapply for membership every four years.
