Becca Muenich Honored with Purdue Alumni Award

By Andi Anderson

Becca Muenich, associate professor at the University of Arkansas, has received the Purdue University Agricultural & Biological Engineering Outstanding Alumni Award. The award was presented last month at Purdue’s campus in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Muenich is being recognized for her remarkable contributions to agricultural engineering, academic leadership, and her commitment to mentoring future engineers. She earned her master’s and doctorate degrees from Purdue, after completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Arkansas.

At the University of Arkansas, Muenich works with the College of Engineering and the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, where she leads research in water quality and sustainable systems.

Her work focuses on watershed modelling to improve hydrology and surface water quality in farming and urban regions.

Department head Terry Howell Jr. praised her achievements, saying, “Dr. Muenich left a great legacy at Purdue and has brought that leadership and service mindset to her role here.”

While at Purdue, Muenich was highly active—serving as president of the Graduate Student Government and mentoring students through the Women in Engineering Program. Her efforts earned several campus awards, including the France A. Cordova Leadership in Action Award.

Since leaving Purdue, she has led and collaborated on research projects securing more than $17 million in funding. Muenich has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers and mentored dozens of students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Muenich reflected warmly on her Purdue years, saying, “At Purdue is where I really had the opportunity to expand my skills and experience in sustainable agricultural systems... and it will always have a special place in my heart.”

Her continued work makes lasting contributions to sustainable agriculture and inspires the next generation of scientists and engineers.
