Celebrating Agriculture - Roxanne Troup Wins 17th 'Book of the Year' Award

By Andi Anderson

The American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture presented its 17th "Book of the Year" award to Roxanne Troup for her enchanting work, "My Grandpa, My Tree, and Me." The award ceremony took place at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 105th Convention.

The book unfolds the touching story of Grandpa, meticulously tending to each tree in his orchard, with a special focus on his favorite – a pecan tree planted for his granddaughter on the day of her birth.

Hailing from the waterways and soybean fields of Missouri, Roxanne Troup draws inspiration from her upbringing, where pecan trees were abundant but commercial cultivation rare. Currently residing in the mountains of Colorado, Troup dedicates herself to crafting children's books that celebrate wonder and family.

Expressing her gratitude, Troup stated, "Thank you so much for recognizing 'My Grandpa, My Tree and Me.' As a kid who grew up in the agricultural communities of the heartland, AFBFA’s award is doubly special - it is a validation, not only of my current work but of my heritage. Thank you for helping kids learn more about where our food comes from and the amazing people who work to feed the world."

The "Book of the Year" award is a testament to the Foundation's commitment to promoting "Accurate Ag Books," a curated collection of nearly 500 books for all ages that authentically cover agricultural topics. These selections are not only educational but also aim to foster positive public perceptions about agriculture, inspire readers to learn more, and share the stories of farmers.

To complement "My Grandpa, My Tree, and Me," the Foundation has developed an educator's guide for the book and an Ag Mag Mini focusing on tree nuts. These resources are accessible here

Celebrate the magic of agriculture and family with Roxanne Troup's award-winning book, creating meaningful connections and inspiring the next generation to appreciate the wonders of farming.
