The U.S. Department of Commerce has awarded a $1.75 million grant to Cass County, Indiana, to improve access to the Cass County Agribusiness Park. The grant will be used to rebuild a roadway and flatten a sharp curve, making it easier for semi-trailer trucks to enter and exit the park. The project is expected to create 200 jobs and attract $68.5 million in private investment.
The Cass County Agribusiness Park is a rural industrial park located in Clymers, Indiana. The park is home to a variety of businesses, including a zinc reclamation plant, a fertilizer facility, an ethanol and corn oil processor, a corn/soybean processing plant, an excavating company, a farm trucking and drainage company, a cement/bioprocessing facility, a grain and hog trailer manufacturer, and an excavating company.
The federal grant will help to improve access to the Cass County Agribusiness Park, making it more attractive to businesses and creating jobs in the region. The grant is also part of President Biden's Investing in America agenda, which aims to support communities that have been impacted by shifts in the energy sector.
"This EDA investment in critical road infrastructure will strengthen Cass County Agribusiness Park's role as an economic driver in the region for decades to come," said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.
"We look forward to helping increase capacity at the Cass County Agribusiness Park and provide a much-needed boost to the regional economy," said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Castillo.
"We are super excited about this EDA award," said Christy Householder, director of Cass County Economic Development. "It will create more growth opportunities within the Cass County Agribusiness Park for existing and new companies with these road improvements made possible with this EDA grant award."
The Cass County Agribusiness Park is located in Clinton Township, Indiana, which is designated as a distressed county by the Economic Development Administration. The EDA's Assistance to Coal Communities (ACC) initiative provides government relief to communities severely impacted by declining coal use.
