Indiana Agricultural Law Foundation Hosts Free Workshop on Farm Estate Planning

The Indiana Agricultural Law Foundation has announced that registration is open for the 10th annual Estate & Succession Planning for the Family Farm workshop. The event, which will be conducted via webcast, is free of charge and encourages family farmers and attorneys to participate. The workshop will take place on Thursday, July 20, from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Eastern Time.

Mark Thornburg, Executive Director of Legal Affairs at the Indiana Farm Bureau, emphasized the importance of families working together to develop succession plans in advance. The workshop aims to facilitate conversations among family members about transitioning the farm to the next generation, requiring careful planning and communication.

The session will cover various topics related to estate planning and succession, featuring knowledgeable speakers in the field. Topics include Estate Planning 101, Four Ways to Lose the Family Farm, Bringing the Next Generation into the Farming Operation, and Health Plans for the Family Farm. The program will provide practical information on estate planning tools and address current developments in the field, with an emphasis on facilitating communication and understanding family dynamics.

The virtual workshop is open to anyone interested in learning about the importance of estate and succession planning for their agricultural business. Attendees will gain valuable tips for initiating the planning process and will have the opportunity to ask questions after each presentation.

Registration is required for the event and can be completed through the Indiana Farm Bureau website or the Indiana Agricultural Law Foundation website by Tuesday, July 18. Attending attorneys will receive 3.3 continuing legal education credits for participation in the workshop.
