Katie Nelson has been selected as the Deputy Director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA), signaling a new phase for the state's agricultural growth. In her new role, Nelson will collaborate closely with the director to advance the mission and strategies of the ISDA, fostering the expansion of Indiana's thriving agriculture industry.

As Deputy Director, Nelson will assume various responsibilities, including overseeing day-to-day operations, representing the ISDA at events, engaging with producer organizations, and identifying opportunities for sectoral growth. With her extensive experience, Nelson will continue to serve as a vital link between agricultural businesses, state agencies, and local government units.

Nelson, who has been with the department since 2017, has a proven track record of effectively navigating legislative and regulatory landscapes to support Indiana's agriculture industry. She brings expertise from her prior roles, including Director of Legislative Affairs and program manager of policy and regulatory affairs at ISDA. Notably, Nelson served as the executive director of the Indiana Land Resources Council, supporting decision-makers in land use policies.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the new role, Nelson highlighted the opportunities for personal and professional growth that ISDA has provided her. She expressed her commitment to supporting the department's exceptional staff and furthering the ISDA's mission of advancing Indiana agriculture, fostering economic growth, and promoting environmental stewardship.

Nelson's appointment is anticipated to bolster Indiana's agricultural sector, with Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch affirming her confidence in Nelson's ability to advocate for farmers and drive the industry forward. The director of ISDA, Don Lamb, also expressed excitement for Nelson's new position, emphasizing her dedication to public service and supporting the department's success.

Nelson, along with her husband, two children, and beloved dog, resides in Franklin, Indiana, where she will spearhead efforts to propel the state's agricultural landscape to new heights.
