Lake County Master Gardeners Spring Plant Sale

Lake County Master Gardeners Spring Plant Sale

By Andi Anderson

The University of Illinois Lake County Extension Master Gardeners will host their annual Spring Plant Sale, an event designed to support gardeners and promote community learning.

The sale brings together gardening enthusiasts of all experience levels who are interested in improving their landscapes and learning more about plants.

The event features a wide selection of nursery-grown plants that are not commonly found at traditional garden centers.

Shoppers can explore native plants, newly developed perennial varieties, ornamental grasses, and many pollinator-friendly plants that support bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. These plant options help gardeners create healthy and sustainable gardens.

In addition to ornamental plants, the sale includes home-grown vegetable plants and herbs suitable for backyard gardens.

Visitors can also browse the popular “Garden Treasures” section, which offers new and gently used gardening items. These include decorative yard art, garden tools, containers, books, and other useful materials to enhance both outdoor and indoor spaces.

Certified Master Gardeners will be available throughout the event to answer questions and provide friendly advice.

They help visitors choose plants that best suit their soil, sunlight, and space conditions. This personal guidance makes the event educational as well as enjoyable, especially for beginner gardeners.

All payments made at the plant sale support Extension programs. The event serves as the primary fundraising effort for the Lake County Extension Master Gardeners.

Funds raised help support volunteer training, youth education, and adult gardening programs throughout the county.

The plant sale is open to the public and held at a convenient university location. With free admission and a welcoming environment, it encourages community members to learn, shop, and connect through gardening.

The event highlights the importance of plants, education, and volunteer service in strengthening local communities.

The event will take place on May 16, 2026, from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM at University of Illinois 100 South US Hwy 45, Grayslake, IL 60030. The event is free.
