Indiana Landmarks and Indiana Farm Bureau are seeking nominations for the 2025 John Arnold Award for Rural Preservation.
This award honors historic farms that continue to function while preserving their agricultural structures and landscapes. Since its inception in 1992, more than 30 Indiana farms have received this prestigious recognition.
Old Fashioned Garden, a historic Miami County farm, won the award in 2024 for maintaining its agricultural traditions while preserving historic buildings. The award encourages farm owners to maintain their properties while adapting them for modern use.
Anyone, including farm owners, can submit a nomination. The nomination process requires a brief history of the farm, details about preserved structures such as barns and farmhouses, and high-resolution photographs showcasing these features. The winning farm receives an outdoor marker and coverage in Indiana Preservation magazine.
Named in memory of John Arnold, a Rush County farmer who valued both progressive farming and historic preservation, the award recognizes those who uphold similar commitments.
The winner will be announced at the Indiana State Fair’s Celebration of Agriculture in August.
Nominations are open until April 15, 2025. To submit a nomination, visit indianalandmarks.org/john-arnold-award-rural-preservation.
