NovaSource to Operate Indiana Agrivoltaic Solar Project

NovaSource to Operate Indiana Agrivoltaic Solar Project

By Andi Anderson

NovaSource Power Services has been chosen to manage operations and maintenance for the 1.6-gigawatt Mammoth Solar project in Indiana. This agrivoltaic project combines clean energy production with agricultural land use, offering benefits to both farmers and the energy grid.

The Arizona-based company is partnering with project developer Doral Renewables to support the project’s operational needs, including regulatory compliance with the North American Electric Reliability Corp. and grid integration.

Mammoth Solar is being developed in four phases. Mammoth North (480 MWdc) was completed in late 2024. The remaining phases—Mammoth South, Mammoth Central I, and Mammoth Central II—each generating 360 MWdc, are scheduled to become operational by 2026.

Doral Renewables Vice President Chris Hinton highlighted the project’s community impact, saying, “Mammoth Solar’s commitment to farming families, dual-use practices and the local communities will allow farmers to produce food and crop alongside the solar panels.”

NovaSource will apply data-driven tools for asset management, including advanced monitoring and analytics, to optimize performance and energy output during the project’s lifecycle.

The project is also supported by local farmer Billy Bope, who will oversee the agricultural side of the dual-use model. His land will be used for sheep grazing beneath the solar panels. These panels are expected to remain in place for 30 years before removal.

Located in Pulaski and Starke Counties, the $1.5 billion project is projected to generate enough electricity to power 250,000 homes at peak capacity. Doral Renewables is a subsidiary of Israeli company Doral Energy.

Mammoth Solar is a notable example of combining renewable energy with agriculture to benefit local economies and the environment.
