The 2025 Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis brought a moment of recognition for Dr. Bret Marsh, Dean of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine and Hospital CEO.
Invited to the fair’s Pioneer Village Opry House on August 13, Dr. Marsh thought he was scheduled to share a short presentation. Instead, the event turned into a surprise celebration of his career.
Dr. Marsh was presented with the Indiana State Fair’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award and a Lifetime Pass. This honor recognized his long-standing service and dedication to the fair and to Indiana agriculture.
Many agricultural leaders and colleagues from the Indiana State Board of Animal Health attended the ceremony, highlighting his impact on the state’s agricultural community.
With a 30-year career as Indiana’s state veterinarian, Dr. Marsh has been a central figure in shaping the health and welfare of livestock while supporting agricultural events such as the State Fair. His leadership at Purdue University also reflects his continued dedication to advancing veterinary medicine and mentoring future professionals in the field.
“This recognition came as a total surprise, and I am truly honored as well as humbled by it,” Dr. Marsh said. “Realizing the caliber of the past recipients and their legacy of outstanding and devoted service to Indiana agriculture and Indiana’s iconic State Fair, I am overwhelmed to be counted in their company as a fellow honoree.”
The Lifetime Achievement Award is reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to agriculture. Along with the award, the Lifetime Pass grants recipients unlimited access to the State Fair as a token of appreciation for their enduring commitment.
This recognition reflects not only Dr. Marsh’s professional contributions but also his enthusiasm for preserving the tradition and spirit of Indiana’s State Fair.
