Register for Farm Safety Training in Northern Indiana

By Andi Anderson

Indiana Farm Bureau, in partnership with Keystone Cooperative and supported by the INFB Women’s Leadership Committee, is launching a series of anhydrous ammonia training programs in northern Indiana.

These educational sessions aim to equip farmers and agricultural workers with the knowledge to safely manage and utilize anhydrous ammonia, a potent yet hazardous farm input.

Scheduled across various venues in northern Indiana, the training sessions cover essential safety protocols and practical application tips.

Training Dates and Locations -

  • Feb. 13 - Keystone Cooperative Herbst, Marion, IN – 6 p.m. ET
  • Feb. 18 - Whitley County Ag Museum, Columbia City, IN – 6 p.m. ET (includes PARP credits)
  • March 3 - Keystone Cooperative Malden, Valparaiso, IN – 5 p.m. CT

The program's curriculum is designed by the safety team and agronomists from Keystone Cooperative and includes a special focus on the preparation and safety measures necessary for handling anhydrous ammonia.

An important aspect of the Columbia City session, held at the Whitley County Ag Museum, is the opportunity to earn PARP credits through Purdue Extension. This session will also feature a regulatory update from John Woodmansee, a noted agriculture and natural resources educator.

“Indiana farmers use anhydrous ammonia in the spring and fall to fertilize our fields, increasing crop yields and ultimately supporting our food security,” noted Janis Highley, INFB 2nd vice president and chair of the INFB Women’s Leadership Committee. “However, it’s important to remember that it is a dangerous chemical that must be stored, handled, and transported properly.”

The training is designed for those in the agricultural sector who frequently deal with anhydrous ammonia.

Attendance is free, with light refreshments provided, but registration is required through www.infb.org/events and closes three business days prior to each session.
