Agriculture programs offer students a unique blend of classroom learning and leadership development, preparing them for careers in agriculture while inspiring personal and professional growth.
Exploring Agriculture Education
Students at Middleburgh Central School (MCS) have access to diverse agriculture classes starting in grade 7. These courses, ranging from Small Animal Care to Veterinary Science, provide hands-on experiences that deepen their understanding of science, technology, and business in agriculture.
FFA and Leadership Opportunities
The National FFA Organization plays a key role in fostering leadership and career exploration. FFA advisor Carmen Fagnani emphasizes the program’s ability to empower students. “Through FFA, students gain practical knowledge, build confidence, and explore diverse career paths,” she said.
Real Stories of Student Success
Sophomore Logan R., co-vice president of the FFA, credits the program for shaping her dream of owning a farm. Freshman Aiden S., former Jr. FFA president, has participated in competitions like dairy judging and livestock skillathons, gaining valuable connections and skills.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Students frequently visit agricultural businesses to see real-world practices. Highlights include tours of Purdue University, Ohio Agriculture Department facilities, and participation in the National FFA Convention. Motivational speeches and expert talks, like those from Temple Grandin on animal behavior, leave lasting impressions on students.
Inspiring Future Leaders
Through agriculture programs and FFA, students develop leadership skills, gain career insights, and create lifelong connections. These experiences empower them to succeed in agriculture and beyond.
By providing such opportunities, agriculture programs help students grow into skilled professionals and leaders who can shape the future of the industry.
