Twilight grazing tech tour at Purdue

By Andi Anderson

Purdue University Extension warmly invites agricultural producers to a special twilight tour focused on cutting-edge grazing technologies. This event, set for June 25 at 5:30 p.m., will take place at the Feldun Purdue Agricultural Center (FPAC), located at 1117 State Route 458, Bedford, Indiana.

Attendees will delve into the latest advancements in the field, including the measurement of individual forage intake by beef cattle, the use of remote sensing technology to manage pasture forages, and the impact of dietary fiber supplementation on heifer reproduction during early spring grazing.

"The work we’re doing is a cooperative venture with West Virginia University. We’re using a combination of advanced technologies in the grazing environment to evaluate practical solutions to producer challenges," explains Ron Lemenager, a beef specialist with Purdue Extension.

The tour will also highlight specific grazing technologies such as the C-Lock SmartFeed unit, the Enriched Ag imagery system, and the Vytelle in-pen weighing system.

These tools represent the forefront of agricultural innovation, offering practical solutions and improvements in livestock management.

Sponsored by Vytelle and Enriched Ag, and supported by a network of prestigious partners including West Virginia University, The Ohio State University, and the Lawrence County Cattlemen’s Association, the event promises a comprehensive overview of the latest trends and technologies in grazing management.

The evening will be educational and enjoyable, with the Lawrence County Cattlemen’s Association preparing burgers for the attendees starting at 5:30 p.m.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP by contacting Brad Shelton, superintendent of FPAC, at sheltonb@purdue.edu or calling 812-279-8554 by June 21.

This tour is an excellent opportunity for producers to see firsthand how modern technology can transform grazing practices, making them more efficient and sustainable. Don’t miss this chance to learn from leading experts and network with peers in the industry.
