Young Ag Leaders Gather to Explore Innovation and Leadership

Young Ag Leaders Gather to Explore Innovation and Leadership

By Andi Anderson

The 2025 New Century Farmer Conference will bring together 50 selected FFA alumni from 22 states from July 20-24 in Indianapolis. These young leaders will sharpen their skills, learn from experts, and explore innovative ideas shaping agriculture.

This national event focuses on leadership, entrepreneurship, and career development for future agriculture professionals. Nearly one-third of the participants are first-generation producers. Most are keen on farm ownership or business ventures, reflecting the growing interest in ag entrepreneurship among youth.

Emma Mendez, National FFA Program Manager, highlighted the impact of this gathering, stating that it sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and helps students feel connected to a larger agricultural community.

The conference includes tours of two family-run farms in Noblesville—Flanders A-Maizing Grain and Sheller Family Farms. Jim Flanders, an FFA alum, operates Flanders A-Maizing Grain and has expanded into the farm-to-table business Simply from Scratch.

By partnering with local farmers, his family business supports the community while offering fresh products at farmers markets and pop-up locations. The Flanders family will share their journey and business insights with attendees.

Participants will also visit leading agriculture companies such as Corteva Agriscience, CNH Industrial, Reynolds Farm Equipment, and Beck’s Hybrids. These visits give students a first-hand look at modern agricultural practices and innovations from industry leaders.

The New Century Farmer Conference aims to prepare young farmers for a successful future in agriculture. It connects them with mentors, industry professionals, and fellow aspiring farmers.

The experience offers valuable lessons in leadership, innovation, and community engagement, encouraging them to explore new possibilities within the agriculture sector.

By fostering connections and sharing knowledge, the conference helps shape the next generation of agricultural leaders who are ready to make a difference in the industry.
