Applications are now open for the Land Stewardship Leadership Academy, a professional development program designed for early and mid-career conservation professionals working with private landowners in agricultural landscapes. The program aims to strengthen knowledge, leadership skills, and collaboration among individuals involved in conservation efforts across Indiana.
The academy welcomes professionals working in water, wildlife, and forestry conservation who regularly collaborate with private landowners. Through a structured learning experience, participants will gain a better understanding of agriculture, farming practices, and the challenges faced by farmers in Indiana.
One of the key goals of the program is to build stronger connections between conservation professionals and the agricultural community. Participants will have the opportunity to network with fellow conservation experts, farmers, and agriculture educators. These interactions are expected to encourage the exchange of knowledge and support the development of effective conservation solutions.
The academy offers a combination of online and in-person learning opportunities. Participants will take part in ten virtual learning sessions covering important topics related to conservation and agriculture. In addition, four virtual meetings with experienced farmer-teachers will provide real-world insights into farming operations and land stewardship practices.
To complement the online training, the program includes three hands-on workshops in central Indiana. These in-person sessions will give participants practical experience and allow them to observe conservation practices in action. The workshops are designed to strengthen learning through direct engagement and field-based activities.
The Land Stewardship Leadership Academy is limited to 20 participants, creating a focused learning environment and encouraging meaningful discussions among members of the cohort. The program will run from November through May, offering several months of training, networking, and professional growth.
Interested individuals are encouraged to apply before the deadline of September 4, 2026. The program is organized through Purdue University College of Agriculture Extension and the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources.
For additional information, applicants may contact Jessica Outcalt, Contact Person, Purdue University Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, at 765-494-3573 or joutcalt@purdue.edu. The academy provides an excellent opportunity for conservation professionals to expand their expertise, build valuable relationships, and contribute to sustainable agricultural and environmental stewardship across Indiana.
