Inari Agriculture to Lay Off 64 Employees at West Lafayette Facility

Inari Agriculture to Lay Off 64 Employees at West Lafayette Facility

By Andi Anderson

Inari Agriculture, Inc., a biotechnology company focused on seed innovation, has announced plans to reduce its workforce at its West Lafayette facility in early 2026. The company disclosed the upcoming layoffs through a formal notice filed under the Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.

According to the notice, 64 employees will be affected by the workforce reduction. Layoffs began on January 20, 2026, with additional separations occurring through February 6, 2026. The company confirmed that the positions are permanently being eliminated.

Inari cited “changing business needs” as the driver behind the decision. While the notification did not detail specific factors, the company—known for leveraging computational design and gene editing technologies to enhance crop seed performance—has experienced several strategic shifts in recent years as it continues refining its commercial and research priorities.

The WARN Act requires employers to provide advance notice in cases of qualified plant closings or mass layoffs, giving affected workers time to prepare for employment transitions. The notice did not specify whether support services or transition resources would be offered to impacted employees.

Prior to the layoffs, the West Lafayette facility was described as the company's fastest-growing location, with approximately 130 employees based there as of May 2023.

The West Lafayette site has been an important hub for Inari’s research and development efforts, particularly in areas related to crop genetics and field testing. The longterm impact of the workforce reduction on the facility’s operations and the strategic outlook for the company has not yet been shared.
