Indiana Farm Bureau Appoints New Public Policy Director

By Andi Anderson

Indiana Farm Bureau (INFB) has announced the appointment of Katie Nelson as its new executive director of public policy. In this role, she will lead the organization’s public policy team while overseeing advocacy efforts for Indiana farmers at the local, state, and national levels.

Nelson brings strong leadership experience from her previous role as deputy director at the Indiana State Department of Agriculture.

There, she guided multiple division directors in areas such as economic development, public affairs, and soil conservation, while also managing the agency’s budget and daily operations.

Sharing her vision for the new role, Nelson said, “I’m excited for this new opportunity to help lead a team that already has such a great grassroots network to advocate for policies that impact Indiana farmers and rural communities. Coming from my role in state government, I know the respect our legislators have for INFB’s leadership and public policy team, and I look forward to continuing those relationships at the Statehouse, but also in our nation’s capital and communities throughout Indiana.”

Raised on a fifth-generation corn, soybean, and beef cattle farm in Missouri, Nelson has a strong agricultural background. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Missouri and is a graduate of AgrIInstitute’s Indiana Agricultural Leadership Program as well as the Richard Lugar Series.

INFB President Randy Kron welcomed Nelson to the leadership team, saying, “Katie's background in agriculture, team management, government relations and industry relations will benefit Indiana Farm Bureau and our membership. I'm confident her leadership and strategic mindset will be a tremendous asset to the organization.”

Through her appointment, Indiana Farm Bureau aims to continue strengthening its policy advocacy and representation of farmers across the state.
