Ron Wamsley Appointed to Indiana Soil Scientists Board

By Andi Anderson

Ron Wamsley of Rensselaer, Indiana, has been appointed by Governor Mike Braun to serve on the Indiana Board of Registration for Soil Scientists.

A respected former agriculture teacher and farmer, Wamsley brings decades of experience in education and land stewardship to his new role.

Wamsley joins Ryan Bennett of the Wells County Health Department on the board, with both serving terms that expire on July 31, 2029. The board is responsible for reviewing candidates for soil scientist registration and maintaining standards for professional practice within the state.

“When contacted by the governor’s office, I was initially worried someone had complained about my work,” Wamsley joked. “But I was thrilled when I found out I was being considered for the board.”

State Representative Kendell Culp (R-Rensselaer) recommended Wamsley for the position. After submitting his résumé, Wamsley was informed that he had been officially selected by the governor’s office.

According to the Indiana Registry of Soil Scientists, soil scientists play a vital role in analyzing soil composition, fertility, and behavior to support agriculture, conservation, forestry, and urban development.

Their work helps inform land use planning, erosion control, and sustainable resource management.

Wamsley, who is registered as a professional soil scientist in Indiana, provides soil analysis services across multiple counties, including Benton, Carroll, Jasper, Newton, Pulaski, Starke, and Tippecanoe.

He previously taught agriculture at Rensselaer Central High School and served as FFA advisor, inspiring many young students to pursue agricultural careers.

Raised on a family farm near Monticello, Wamsley grew up raising livestock and crops, experiences that shaped his lifelong commitment to soil and land stewardship.

Governor Braun also announced the appointment of former State Representative Don Lehe of White County to the Indiana-Illinois Boundary Adjustment Commission, effective through June 2029.
