Tornadoes Cause Damage to Farms and Homes in Indiana

By Andi Anderson

Tornadoes and severe storms swept through Indiana on March 14 and 15, causing damage to farms, homes, and buildings.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), 10 tornadoes were reported across the state, all classified as EF-0 or EF-1, indicating weak to moderate intensity.

The storms injured several people. In Rushville, thunderstorm winds overturned a security trailer, injuring three individuals.

In Clark County, temporary structures collapsed at a construction site, injuring four people. Despite the destruction, no fatalities were reported in Indiana.

Three tornadoes were confirmed in Parke, Jackson, and Daviess counties on the morning of March 15. The Parke County tornado, with winds reaching 110 mph, damaged rural farmland, destroyed a small garage, and heavily damaged a 150-year-old barn.

In Jackson County, a mobile home sustained significant damage, while in Daviess County, strong winds destroyed several farm buildings. The tornado in Daviess County had a path length of 13.6 miles, with winds exceeding 100 mph.

Two additional EF-0 tornadoes were confirmed in Lawrence County. One traveled 2.2 miles north of Fayetteville, damaging barn roofs and destroying a shed, while another in Marshall Township covered nearly a mile, damaging a porch and a shed.

In Orange County, a tornado traveled 11 miles in about eight minutes, causing widespread tree damage and some structural destruction.

Meteorologists noted that while EF-1 tornadoes are relatively weak, winds of up to 110 mph still pose serious threats. More than 10,000 people lost power due to the storms, highlighting the impact of severe weather on local communities.

Emergency responders continue to assess the damage and support affected residents.
