Tyson Adjusts Beef Operations Strategy

Tyson Adjusts Beef Operations Strategy

By Jamie Martin

Tyson Foods has announced a restructuring plan for its beef business.

The strategy centers on three core beef processing facilities located in Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas. These plants will serve as the foundation of Tyson's beef operations as the industry continues to navigate limited cattle supplies.

The move follows ongoing cattle inventory challenges across the United States. Recent data indicates that cattle numbers remain constrained, and supply pressures are expected to continue for the foreseeable future.

To create a more streamlined operating network, Tyson Foods will close its beef processing facility in Joslin, Illinois, as well as its case-ready facility in Eagle Mountain, Utah. In addition, the company is pursuing the sale of its beef plant in Pasco, Washington.

The company plans to shift production capacity from these locations to facilities with greater opportunities for growth and expansion. Tyson also expects to restore a second shift at its Amarillo, Texas, plant when cattle availability improves.

Company leaders say the restructuring will allow Tyson Foods to maintain a comparable level of beef processing while operating through a more efficient and strategically positioned network. The changes are intended to improve flexibility and strengthen the company's competitive position in the marketplace.

Tyson Foods noted that the transition will affect employees and communities connected to the impacted facilities. The company stated that it will work with team members by providing support and access to employment opportunities at other Tyson locations where possible.
