Farmers Gain Tax Skills Through Online Training

Farmers Gain Tax Skills Through Online Training

By Andi Anderson

A new virtual workshop series called Understanding Farm Taxes is being offered to help farmers, farmland owners, and agriculture beginners learn the basics of tax planning.

This two-part Extension program is designed to make tax information easier to understand and to support better financial decision-making in agricultural operations. The online sessions take place from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time on December 1 and December 8.

The workshop teaches a wide range of tax topics that are important for farm businesses. Participants learn the basics of income taxes, the difference between cash and accrual accounting, and how to use Schedule F, the main tax form for reporting farm income and expenses.

The series also covers practical tax strategies that can help farmers plan for the year, manage income, and understand key financial responsibilities.

This workshop is useful for people who are new to farm taxes as well as those who want to improve their current approach. The sessions aim to make tax rules less confusing and help farmers feel more confident when making financial decisions related to their operations.

There is a $20 registration fee, and all participants must register by November 30. Registration may be completed online, and individuals are encouraged to attend both sessions to get the full benefit of the program. Participants need Zoom video access and a stable internet connection. All sessions will be recorded, and the recordings will be shared with everyone who registers.

Anyone with questions may contact Purdue Extension Putnam County by smith535@purdue.edu or 765-653-8411. Those who need accommodations to participate should reach out before November 20. The program follows Purdue University’s nondiscrimination policy, ensuring that all community members are welcome.

This workshop series offers clear, simple guidance for farmers who want to understand their taxes better and build stronger financial practices for the future.
